Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

The surface to which FOX PURMAX® TOPCOAT is to be applied must be free of dust, dirt, grease, and any other substances that would impair adhesion. Application must be carried out within the recoating window of the coating system. If application is to be made over existing coatings, consult Technical Services for the application method. Concrete surfaces must be at least 3 weeks old, and a vapour barrier layer must be installed on slabs laid on ground.

  2. 2

    Mixing

Before starting to mix, ensure that the product temperatures are between +20°C and +25°C. Component A must be thoroughly mixed using an electric mixer (300–400 rpm) and a suitable epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains at the bottom of the container. Component B must then be added entirely to Component A and mixed continuously for 3–4 minutes. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.

  3. 3

    Application

FOX PURMAX® TOPCOAT should be poured onto the surface in equal amounts and at equal intervals, then applied by brush, roller, or spray. Application should be carried out in two coats.

  4. 4

    Tool Cleaning

After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURMAX® TOPCOAT has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

Critical

The surface, ambient, and material temperature must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering may develop on the coating; in this case, the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Failure to use the specified mixing paddle will result in air bubbles forming in the coating.

Critical

Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application, and a vapour barrier layer must be installed on slabs laid on ground.

Important

Before starting to mix, ensure that the product temperatures are between +20°C and +25°C.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, the ambient and substrate temperature should be raised; products should be conditioned at +20°C–+25°C before use.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals, and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.

Important

Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry place, protected from frost, between +5°C and +30°C. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

For short-term storage, pallets may be stacked no more than 2 high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

Critical

Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; these areas must be ventilated.

Critical

Wear work clothing, protective gloves, goggles, and a mask during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas; the product must be stored out of reach of children.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.

Information

The technical values above are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the time; lower temperatures extend it.
