Product Description
FOX PURMAX® POLYUREA TOPCOAT is a polyaspartic-based, two-component, aliphatic, high chemical resistance, low-viscosity, flexible, solvent-free and glossy topcoat. It is applied as a topcoat over FOX PURMAX® series polyurethane waterproofing systems and FOX PURMAX® Spraytec series waterproofing systems. It provides 4 times higher chemical and mechanical resistance compared to epoxy. Thanks to its ability to open to pedestrian traffic after approximately 2 hours, downtime is minimised.
Advantages
- High chemical and mechanical resistance (4 times compared to epoxy).
- Fast setting (can be opened to pedestrian traffic after approximately 2 hours).
- Aliphatic coating.
- Flexible.
- Easy to maintain and clean.
- Provides hygienic environments.
- Glossy topcoat finish.
- High adhesion strength.
Usage Areas
- As a topcoat over Fox Purmax® series polyurethane waterproofing systems and Fox Purmax® Spraytec series waterproofing systems
- Terraces exposed to UV and solar radiation
- Terraces, balconies and all wet areas
- Roof and garden terraces
- Swimming pools and ornamental ponds
- Aircraft hangars
- Car park coatings
- Water supply lines and channels
- Underground water tanks
- Tunnels
- Canals
- Warehouses
- Collection tanks
- Prefabricated structures
- Steel structures
- Wide-span terraces
- Roof gutters
- Planter waterproofing
Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The surface to be coated must be free of dust, dirt, oil and any other substances that could impair adhesion. Concrete surfaces must be at least 3 weeks old, surface temperature must be a minimum of +10°C, and moisture content must be below 4%. Application must be carried out within the recoating window of the coating system. If applying over existing coatings, consult Technical Services.
- 2
Checking Application Conditions
Surface, ambient and material temperature must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +25°C. Relative humidity must be a maximum of 60%. Substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Rising damp must be checked using the ASTM polyethylene sheet test.
- 3
Mixing
Before mixing, ensure that product temperatures are between +10°C and +25°C. Thoroughly mix component A on its own using an electric mixer (300–400 rpm) and a suitable epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip. After adding component B entirely into component A, mix continuously for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.
- 4
Application
FOX PURMAX® POLYUREA TOPCOAT is poured onto the surface in equal amounts and at equal intervals, then applied using a roller or airless spray machine. Pot life is 25 minutes at +23°C; application must be completed within this time.
- 5
Tool and Equipment Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURMAX® POLYUREA TOPCOAT has cured, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.
- 6
Curing and Protection
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. Pedestrian traffic is possible after approximately 2 hours; full cure is achieved after 7 days. Ambient and substrate temperatures must not fall below the specified minimum levels.
Concrete surfaces to be coated must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.
Surface temperature must be minimum +10°C, maximum +25°C; ambient temperature minimum +10°C, maximum +25°C; material temperature minimum +10°C, maximum +25°C.
Surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 60%.
The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. If condensation has formed on the coating, it must be dried with a dry mop.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In case of water contact, softening and blistering may occur on the coating; in this case the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip. Failure to use the specified mixing tip will result in air bubbles forming on the coating.
Pot life is 25 minutes at +23°C. Higher temperatures shorten the pot life; lower temperatures extend it.
Materials should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, containers should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the area while the coating is still fresh.
A vapour barrier layer must be installed on floors resting on soil.
Store in original unopened packaging in a cool and dry environment between +5°C and +30°C, protected from frost. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.
It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; these areas must be ventilated.
Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
