Product Description
FOX PURMAX® EP 2K is a two-component, low-viscosity liquid waterproofing and protection material based on epoxy polyurethane, developed for waterproofing and protection applications. Thanks to its pure elastomeric hydrophobic epoxy polyurethane resin and special inorganic filler content, it offers excellent resistance to chemicals and maintains high performance even in cold conditions. The product contains 100% solids and is applied without thinning. Tensile strength reaches 7.5 N/mm² at +23°C and 17.5 N/mm² at -20°C, while elongation at break remains at 325% at both temperatures. It can be applied in a single coat using a notched trowel, squeegee, or airless spray gun; alternatively, it can be applied in at least two coats by roller or brush. It allows light foot traffic on the surface and can be overcoated with FOX PURMAX® TOPCOAT.
Key Benefits
- Single-coat application saves labour and time.
- Provides reliable year-round waterproofing thanks to high tensile and tear resistance in cold weather conditions (-20°C).
- Excellent chemical resistance ensures long-lasting protection in industrial environments and on surfaces exposed to aggressive chemicals.
- 325% elongation at break and crack-bridging capability prevent damage caused by substrate movement.
- Hydrophobic structure and liquid impermeability provide permanent resistance to ponding water and standing water.
- Resistance to light traffic loads, the ability to be overcoated with FOX PURMAX® TOPCOAT, and suitability for local repairs make it a practical long-term solution.

Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation – Concrete Surfaces
Oil, grease, fuel, and paraffin residues must be removed; the surface must be completely free of release agents, cement residues, laitance, loose particles, and cured membranes. Surface defects, uneven areas, and corner edges must be repaired with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar to form a fillet with a minimum radius of 4 cm. Surface cracks must be filled and repaired with FOX PURSEAL PS600 polyurethane mastic. The surface must be primed with a suitable FOX EPOTHANE® or FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K series primer.
- 2
Surface Preparation – Asphalt Surfaces
The asphalt surface must be cleaned with a water jet. For applications subject to vehicular traffic, the load-bearing capacity of the asphalt must be appropriate for the loads in use. The asphalt surface must be shot-blasted to expose at least 60% of the aggregates and then primed with a suitable FOX EPOTHANE® series primer.
- 3
Surface Preparation – Bitumen Surfaces
Loose particles on the bitumen surface must be removed, blisters must be opened and dried. Main cracks must be opened, repaired, and taped over; the surface must then be primed with suitable FOX EPOTHANE® and FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K series primers.
- 4
Mixing
Mix component A thoroughly using an electric mixer (300–400 rpm) with a suitable epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. After adding component B entirely into component A, mix continuously for 3–4 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.
- 5
Priming
Surfaces to receive FOX PURMAX® EP 2K must be primed in advance with a suitable FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. Substrate temperature must be a minimum of +8°C. FOX PURMAX® EP 2K must be applied over the primer within the pot life.
- 6
Coating Application
FOX PURMAX® EP 2K can be poured onto the surface and applied evenly in a single coat using a notched trowel or squeegee. Alternatively, it is applied in at least two coats by roller or brush. When applying by roller or brush, waiting time between coats must not exceed 10–24 hours. If this period has been exceeded or if intercoat adhesion is uncertain, a FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K primer application must be carried out.
- 7
Tool Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURMAX® EP 2K has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
After application, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering will develop on the coating and its properties will be lost; in this case, the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Ambient temperature must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C; surface temperature between a minimum of +8°C and a maximum of +30°C; material temperature between a minimum of +15°C and a maximum of +30°C.
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Dew point and condensation must be monitored. The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.
Mixing must be carried out using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. If the specified mixing paddle is not used, air will be entrained into the product and air bubbles will form on the coating after application.
Concrete surfaces must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application, and a vapour barrier layer must be installed on slabs laid on ground.
When applying by roller or brush, waiting time between coats must not exceed 10–24 hours. If this period has been exceeded (more than 4 days) or if intercoat adhesion is uncertain, a FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K primer application must be carried out.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, ambient and substrate temperatures should be raised; products should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals, and insects must be prevented from entering the freshly applied area.
Shelf life: 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored in original packaging at +5°C to +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a dry environment.
Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; areas must be adequately ventilated. Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles, and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
