Product Description
FOX MULTIPLUS® FS540 PLUS is a bitumen-rubber emulsion based, single-component, solvent-free, ready-to-use flexible waterproofing material with crack-bridging capability. It meets the CB2 (≥2 mm static crack bridging), W2A (0.075 N/mm² water impermeability under pressure) and C2A (0.30 MN/m² compressive strength) class requirements in accordance with TS EN 15814+A2:2015.
With a density of 1.18 kg/lt and a solid content of 75%, the product can be applied to slightly damp and dry surfaces and has a service temperature range of –20°C to +80°C. Its water-based formulation makes it environmentally friendly. Application can be carried out by brush, trowel or spray machine.
Key Benefits
- Its single-component, ready-to-use formula enables fast and practical application under site conditions.
- With a static crack-bridging capacity of ≥2 mm (CB2), it can reliably bridge cracks caused by substrate movement.
- Solvent-free; provides a healthy and safe application environment in enclosed and semi-open spaces.
- Can be applied to slightly damp and dry surfaces; no additional waiting time for surface drying is required.
- Provides permanent waterproofing in areas affected by movement and vibration, offering long-term protection.
- Resistant to weak acids and certain salt solutions; exhibits high resistance to freeze-thaw cycles.
Advantages
- Easy and fast to apply.
- Applied by brush, trowel and spray machine.
- Forms a seamless, permanent, moisture- and water-impermeable coating.
- Has crack-bridging capability.
- Can be applied to slightly damp and dry surfaces.
- Long-lasting; resistant to water, weak acids and certain salt solutions.
- Resistant to freeze-thaw cycles.
- High ageing resistance; provides permanent waterproofing even after many years.
- Can be used in areas affected by movement and vibration.
- Water-based, solvent-free and environmentally friendly.
Usage Areas
- On interior and exterior surfaces, from the positive side in vertical applications
- On reinforced concrete surfaces below ground that are in continuous contact with water
- On surfaces such as foundations and retaining walls
- On retaining walls
- In basements and similar underground structures
- For protection of concrete against groundwater and microorganisms
- For bonding thermal insulation boards
Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The surface to be treated must be sound; oil, grease, rust, paraffin, paint and bitumen residues as well as loose particles must be removed. Iron and wooden plugs on the surface must be removed, and active water leaks must be plugged with FOX PLUG FC340. Existing voids, uneven surfaces and corners/edges (chamfer of at least 4 cm) must be filled with FOX MORTAR FC188 T (R4) repair mortar.
- 2
Mixing
FOX MULTIPLUS® FS540 PLUS must be mixed for 3 minutes using a low-speed electric mixer operating at 400–600 rpm and the T mixing tip specified in the technical specifications. The mixed material must be consumed within 1 hour at the latest.
- 3
Priming
For primer application, 1 kg of material is taken from the bucket and mixed with 5 litres of water in a separate container (400–600 rpm, 3–5 minutes). The prepared mixture is applied to the surface in a single, homogeneous coat using a brush. The primer is allowed to dry completely.
- 4
Waterproofing Application
Once the primer has dried, FOX MULTIPLUS® FS540 PLUS is applied in two coats by brush at the specified consumption rates (1st coat: 1.50 kg/m², 2nd coat: 1.25 kg/m²). Each coat must be checked to be completely dry before proceeding to the next step. Before backfilling, the surface must be covered with drainage boards and thermal insulation panels; it must be protected from impacts and tears that may occur during backfilling. Application must not be carried out while it is raining or when there is a possibility of rain.
- 5
Cleaning of Application Tools
After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with water. Once the material has hardened, it can be removed from the surface mechanically using solvent.
If the ambient and surface temperature is below +5°C or above +30°C, application must not be carried out; appropriate temperatures must be awaited.
For exterior surface applications, the applied surface must be protected from sunlight, wind, rain or frost for the first 24 hours.
Application must not be carried out while it is raining or when there is a possibility of rain. Surfaces that have not fully cured must not be exposed to water.
FOX MULTIPLUS® FS540 PLUS must be consumed within 1 hour at the latest from the time of mixing.
FOX MULTIPLUS® FS540 PLUS must be mixed using the mixing attachment specified in the technical specifications (T mixing tip, 400–600 rpm).
For the material to complete its cure, the ambient and substrate temperature must not fall below the permitted minimum temperature.
The working and reaction times of bitumen-rubber based systems are affected by ambient and substrate temperature as well as relative humidity; reaction slows at low temperatures and accelerates at high temperatures.
When stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, between +5°C and +30°C, the shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture. Must be protected from frost. Opened material should be used as soon as possible.
During storage and application, contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
Approaching storage and application areas with open flame is dangerous; areas must be ventilated. Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application.
Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Must be stored out of reach of children.
