Product Description

FOX HARDTOP® FF300 is a single-component, coloured, ready-to-use dry shake surface hardener composed of cement, specially selected quartz aggregate, pigments and additives. It is applied by dry-shaking directly onto freshly floated concrete and screed surfaces. Thanks to the modified polymers in its composition, it absorbs the bleed water from the floor concrete and, after trowelling, forms a monolithic structure with the concrete. This prevents surface dusting and results in a floor that is 2–4 times more durable than a standard concrete surface. The product meets the requirements of TS EN 13813:2004 CT-C50-F7-A12 with a compressive strength of 50–60 N/mm², a flexural strength of 7.5 N/mm² and an abrasion resistance of 7.5 cm³/50cm², making it suitable for industrial floor applications. It also offers aesthetic solutions in Natural Grey, Anthracite, Green, Red and Custom Colour options.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

    The compressive strength of the concrete to be treated must be at least 25 N/mm² (C25). Concrete slump values must be between 75–100 mm, the cement content must be 300–350 kg/m³ and the slab thickness must be at least 15 cm. Air-entrained concretes are not suitable for this application.

  2. 2

    Primer Application

    For monolithic screed applications, FOX BINDER FM125 must be applied as a primer to the roughened concrete surface before pouring begins, in order to ensure adhesion between the existing concrete and the screed. For floating screed applications, a polyethylene sheet must be laid over the existing concrete.

    Preparation of Joint Edges

    Before application, approximately 5×5 cm of concrete must be cut at the joint edges of the anodes and removed with a trowel. FOX HARDTOP® FF300 mixed with a small amount of water to form a mortar must be applied to the resulting voids to prevent the joint edges from breaking under load.

    Dry-Shaking Surface Hardener (1st Stage)

    Dry-shaking must begin once the concrete has hardened sufficiently to leave a footprint of approximately 0.5–1.5 cm depth when walked upon. Two-thirds of the total consumption must be spread as evenly and homogeneously as possible over the surface and levelled with a screed bar. It must not be scattered over long distances to prevent aggregate segregation.

    Disc Trowelling (1st Stage)

    The material must be allowed to absorb the bleed water from the concrete and become moist (change colour), after which disc trowelling (helicopter pan trowelling) must be carried out to integrate the surface hardener with the concrete.

    Dry-Shaking Surface Hardener (2nd Stage)

    The remaining one-third of the material is spread over the surface in the same manner and disc trowelling is repeated. Any excess material that spills out during trowelling must be removed with a spatula.

  7. 7

    Finish Trowelling (Blade Trowelling)

    Finally, finish trowelling (blade trowelling) is carried out and the process is continued until the surface achieves the desired level of sheen.

  8. 8

    Curing and Joint Cutting

    After application is complete, a curing compound must be applied to prevent cracking and dusting. Curing is mandatory in both summer and winter conditions. Once the concrete has sufficiently hardened, joints of at least 4 mm width must be cut at construction joints and filled with PU sealant.

  9. 9

    Tool Cleaning

    Tools and equipment used must be cleaned with water immediately after application. Once the product has hardened, it can only be removed by mechanical means.

Once application is complete, a curing compound must be applied to prevent cracking and dusting. Curing is mandatory in both summer and winter conditions.

After the concrete has sufficiently hardened, joints of at least 4 mm width must be cut at construction joints. To prevent cracking and dusting, these joints must be filled with PU sealant.

Important

To prevent segregation of the aggregates in the product, it must not be scattered over long distances during application.

Dry-shaking must begin only after the concrete has hardened sufficiently to leave a footprint of approximately 0.5–1.5 cm depth when walked upon.

Important

In hot weather, application must be carried out quickly; in cold weather, care must be taken as the setting time is extended.

Air-entrained concretes are not suitable surfaces for the application of a surface hardener.

Important

The compressive strength of the concrete to be treated must be at least 25 N/mm² (C25). Concrete slump values must be between 75–100 mm.

The slab thickness must be at least 15 cm and the concrete cement content must be 300–350 kg/m³.

Important

When stored correctly at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, between +5°C and +30°C, the shelf life is 12 months. Opened packages must be used within 1 week.

Important

Must be stored in its original unopened packaging, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. During short-term storage, no more than 3 pallets must be stacked on top of each other.

Critical

Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap.

In case of ingestion, seek medical attention immediately. Store out of reach of children.

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated.

Information

Once FOX HARDTOP® FF300 has hardened, it can only be removed from the surface mechanically. Tools and equipment must be cleaned with water immediately after application.

Information

The technical values above are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity conditions. Higher temperatures shorten the time; lower temperatures extend it.
