Product Description

FOX SSL® 80 is a cement-based, mineral-aggregate and polymer-reinforced self-levelling screed. It can be applied in a single pass at thicknesses between 3 mm and 50 mm and allows foot traffic just 3 hours after application. It is suitable for new and existing concrete substrates, underfloor heating systems, and can be used both as an underlayer and as a finished surface. It meets the requirements of TS EN 13813:2004 standard CT-C30-F5-A22: ≥30 N/mm² compressive strength, ≥5 N/mm² flexural strength, and ≥22 cm³/50 cm² wear resistance. Its reaction to fire classification is A1fl and it can also be applied by pump. It is prepared by mixing with water only.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

    The concrete substrate to be treated must be cleaned of laitance using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling, or diamond grinding to achieve an open-pore surface. Weak concrete fragments must be removed, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be removed with an industrial vacuum. The substrate compressive strength must be at least 25 N/mm², tensile strength at least 1.5 N/mm², moisture content maximum 4%, and substrate temperature minimum +5°C.

    Priming

    The substrate must be primed to improve adhesion, reduce air bubbles, and prevent the mixing water from being absorbed by the substrate. Depending on the substrate condition, prime with the appropriate primer from the FOX EPOTHANE® series; while the primer is still wet, broadcast silica sand 40–45 Afs (0.2–0.5 mm) and allow the primer to dry for a minimum of 12 hours (24 hours depending on weather conditions). After scraping off any excess and removing loose sand with an industrial vacuum, proceed with the application of FOX PRIMERA® FL220 or FOX UNIPRIMER FL555 primer.

    Mixing

    Pour the amount of water specified on the packaging (approximately 5.25±0.25 lt for a 25 kg bag; approximately 210±10 ml per 1 kg) into a clean mixing container. Slowly add FOX SSL® 80 into the water and mix with an electric mixer at 600–1000 rpm for 2–3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Do not allow lumps to form at the bottom of the bucket. After waiting 3–5 minutes for maturation, mix for a further 1 minute before use.

    Application (Manual Application)

    FOX SSL® 80 is poured onto the surface and spread to the desired thickness using a notched trowel or suitable float. When the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spiked roller must be applied to release air bubbles. If the spiked roller is applied too late, roller marks may remain on the surface. It can be applied up to 30 mm thickness in a single pass; for thicknesses above 30 mm, the sand mixing table must be taken into account.

    Pump Application

    FOX SSL® 80 can be applied using screw, piston, or continuous mixing pumps that pump approximately 20–40 litres of mortar per minute. If the machine and hoses remain idle for more than 15 minutes, they must be cleaned. The pumped material is spread to the desired thickness using a notched trowel or suitable float and de-aerated with a spiked roller.

    Mixing with Sand (30–50 mm Thicknesses)

    For thicknesses of 30–50 mm, sand can be added according to the following proportions based on sand grading: 30% by weight for 0.4–1.2 mm sand; 30% by weight for 0–4.0 mm sand; 50% by weight for 0–8.0 mm sand.

    Tool Cleaning

    After application, all tools and equipment must be cleaned with water. Once FOX SSL® 80 has hardened, it can only be removed from the surface mechanically.

Do not apply if the ambient or surface temperature is below +5°C or above +30°C; wait for suitable temperatures.

The freshly applied product must be protected from direct sunlight and wind to prevent rapid drying.

To allow the material to cure fully, the ambient and substrate temperature must not fall below the permitted minimum temperature.

Important

After mixing, allow the material to rest (maturation time 3–5 minutes) and then mix again.

Materials to be used should be brought to the application area 1–2 days in advance and stored to allow them to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In very cold weather, the ambient and substrate temperature should be raised using heaters; materials to be used should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before application.

Important

When applying by pump, if the machine and hoses remain idle for more than 15 minutes, they must be cleaned.

Important

Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry place, protected from frost. For short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high. For long-term storage, do not stack pallets.

Important

Once opened, reseal the packaging and consume within 1 week.

Important

During application, wear appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles, and a mask in accordance with occupational health regulations.

Important

Avoid contact with skin and eyes during storage and application; if contact occurs, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Keep open flames away from storage and application areas; ensure adequate ventilation.
