Product Description

FOX PURMAX® MASTIC TIXO is a modified polyurethane-based, two-component, high-performance expansion joint and joint filler mastic. Specially formulated for use in vertical joints, this mastic provides effective waterproofing and filling in wide expansion gaps (between 10 mm and 100 mm). After curing, it retains its elasticity across a service temperature range of -40°C to +90°C. With a Shore A hardness of 25, the product exhibits excellent flexibility properties with an elongation at break exceeding 620%. It offers chemical resistance to jet fuel (Jet A1), diesel, engine oil, acetic acid (10%), sodium hydroxide, sulphuric acid (20%), heating oils, and aliphatic esters and ketones. Total solids content is 100% and it cannot be thinned.

Advantages

  • Excellent resistance to ageing, microorganisms, fungi and various chemicals.
  • Suitable for drinking water.
  • Can be painted over.
  • Retains elasticity even at -40°C.
  • Resistant to fresh and salt water.
  • Resists high tensile, flexural and tear forces.
  • High abrasion resistance.
  • Delivers excellent results even in expansion gaps wider than 10 cm.
  • Resistant to chemicals and petroleum derivatives.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Joint Fill Design

The width of joints to be used must be between 10 mm and 100 mm. For joints with a width of 10–50 mm, the application thickness should be approximately half the joint width (thickness/width ≈ 1/2). For joints with a width of 50 mm and above, an application thickness of 2.5–3 cm is sufficient. Movements occurring in expansion joints must not exceed ±35% of the joint width.

  2. 2

    Surface Preparation – Concrete Surfaces

The inner and outer surfaces of expansion joints must be dry, sound, dust-free, clean, level and even. All oil, paraffin and silicone residues that would impair adhesion must be removed, and loose particles must be cleaned away. Any defects on the surface must be repaired with FOX EPOMORTAR FC510.

  3. 3

    Surface Preparation – Steel Surfaces

Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned of oil and rust residues that would impair adhesion, and then sandblasted. Where sandblasting is not possible, cleaning must be carried out with mechanical tools. Degreasers are used on greasy and oily surfaces.

  4. 4

    Mixing

Ensure that material temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. The entire contents of component B must be emptied into component A. Mix with an electric mixer fitted with a mastic mixing attachment at 300 rpm for at least 5 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained, taking care not to entrain air and ensuring no unmixed material remains on the sides and bottom of the packaging.

  5. 5

    Primer Application

The outer edges of the joints where surface preparation has been completed must be protected with masking tape of appropriate width. A polyethylene backing rod with a diameter 5 mm wider than the joint width must be placed inside the joint to a depth equal to half the joint width. Without applying primer to the surface of the polyethylene backing rod, the concrete surfaces of the joint must be primed with FOX PURMAX® MASTIC PRIMER FP710 using a suitable brush. Once the primer has reached a wet/dry consistency, proceed with the mastic application. Mastic application to primed surfaces must be carried out the following day; if this period has elapsed, the primer must be reapplied.

  6. 6

    Mastic Application

FOX PURMAX® MASTIC TIXO is used in vertical joints only. The mixture is poured into the primed joint containing the polyethylene backing rod using a container with a suitable pouring spout or a bottom-fill aluminium mastic gun. To avoid air voids, filling must begin from the bottom and continue until the desired surface finish is achieved. Once the mastic application is complete, the masking tapes must be removed without distorting the joint profile.

  7. 7

    Cleaning of Tools

Tools and equipment must first be wiped clean with paper towels, then wiped with solvent. Rollers and brushes used cannot be reused and must not be cleaned.

Critical

Application temperature must be between +5°C and +40°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.

Critical

Before mixing, ensure that material temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C.

Critical

The pot life of FOX PURMAX® MASTIC TIXO is 25 minutes (at 25°C). The prepared mixture must be used within this time.

Critical

FOX PURMAX® MASTIC TIXO is for use in vertical joints only.

Critical

Mastic application to surfaces primed with FOX PURMAX® MASTIC PRIMER FP710 must be carried out the following day without fail. If this period has elapsed, the primer application must be repeated.

Important

Movements occurring in expansion joints must not exceed ±35% of the joint width.

Important

The entire contents of component B must be emptied into component A; ensure no material remains in the packaging. Mix for at least 5 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

Important

Primer must not be applied to the surface of the polyethylene backing rod.

Important

The product must not be thinned.

Important

Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry environment, protected from frost, between +5°C and +30°C. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated.

Important

Wear work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask during application. In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Information

The technical values above are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the time; lower temperatures extend it.
