Product Description
FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT UV is a modified polyurethane-based, two-component, UV-resistant, high abrasion resistance topcoat material. It is applied as a topcoat in FOX EPOTHANE®, FOX PURATHANE® and FOX CARPARK® series flooring systems. It can also be used over existing epoxy and polyurethane coatings. Yo
Key Benefits
- Thanks to its UV resistance, colour and mechanical properties are preserved for a long time on indoor and outdoor floors exposed to sunlight.
- Its high abrasion and chemical resistance provides long-lasting protection under heavy loads and intensive traffic.
- Its liquid-impermeable and dirt-repellent structure makes it easy to maintain hygienic environments.
- Easy to maintain and clean; reduces operating costs.
- Fully compatible with FOX EPOTHANE®, FOX PURATHANE® and FOX CARPARK® systems; can also be used for refurbishing existing coatings.

Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The surface should be cleaned using pressurised water where possible and must be completely free of oil, grease, fuel and paraffin residues, release agents, cement residues, shavings, loose particles and contaminated membranes. Weak concrete sections must be removed and cracks opened up further. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. For surface repairs, silica sand of 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) should be mixed with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER primer at the desired ratio.
- 2
Primer Selection
An appropriate primer must be selected according to the surface condition. FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER, FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB or FOX PURATHANE® PRIMER 1K is recommended for standard concrete; FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB or FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER HBF for damp substrates; and FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER WA for ceramic, marble and granite surfaces. A detailed primer selection table is provided in the product technical data sheet.
- 3
Checking Application Conditions
Moisture content in the substrate must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM. Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Substrate temperature must be above +10°C. There must be no risk of dew point or condensation.
- 4
Mixing
Before starting mixing, ensure that product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C. Mix component A thoroughly on its own using an electric mixer (300–400 rpm) and a suitable mixing paddle until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. After adding component B entirely into component A, mix continuously for 3–4 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.
- 5
Application
FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT UV should be applied to the surface using a roller. To minimise roller marks, successive coats should be applied wet-on-wet. Application should be carried out along the short edge and each new pass should start immediately adjacent to the previous one. A second roller pass over the material should be made to ensure homogeneous distribution and eliminate roller marks. Inter-coat application should be carried out after 3 hours depending on ambient temperature. A minimum of 2 coats is recommended for optimum performance.
- 6
Tool and Equipment Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment used should be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURATHANE® TOPCOAT UV has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
Ambient, surface and material temperature must be between +10°C and +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.
Moisture content in the substrate must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM.
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Take care to avoid dew point and condensation.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, softening and blistering will occur on the coating; this will require the coating to be completely removed and reapplied.
Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. If the specified mixing paddle is not used, air bubbles will form in the coating.
Before starting mixing, ensure that product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions. In cold weather, products should be kept at +20°C – 25°C until ready for use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the fresh coating.
The product must not be thinned.
The product must be stored in its original packaging, in a cool and dry environment, between +5°C and +30°C, protected from frost. For short-term storage, a maximum of 3 pallets may be stacked; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.
It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; these areas must be ventilated. Wear protective clothing, gloves, goggles and a mask during application. In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately. Store out of reach of children.
The technical values above are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity conditions. Higher temperatures shorten the time, lower temperatures extend it.
