Product Description

FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT UV is a polyurethane-based, two-component, solvent-free, high-gloss, UV-resistant, decorative and seamless coloured floor coating system. Its self-levelling properties create a smooth and homogeneous coating surface. The hard-flexible balance provides high resistance to abrasion and mechanical impacts, while its crack-bridging capability accommodates substrate movement. Thanks to its UV resistance, it does not yellow even in light shades. The concrete substrates to be coated must have a minimum compressive strength of 25 N/mm², a minimum tensile strength of 1.5 N/mm², and a maximum moisture content of 4%. Application of a FOX EPOTHANE® series primer is mandatory prior to application. The recommended application thickness is 1.5–2.5 mm, with a pot life of 25 minutes. It offers a wide range of colours in the RAL colour scale; colours can be mixed with each other.

Application Steps

    Surface Preparation

    Concrete substrates must be prepared using abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.) to remove the cement laitance and achieve an open-pored surface. Weak concrete particles must be removed from the surface, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. For substrate repair, filling of voids and levelling of the surface, a mortar prepared by mixing 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer should be used.

    Checking Application Conditions

    Prior to application, it must be verified by CM measurement or oven-drying method that the surface moisture content is below 4%. The absence of rising moisture according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test) must be checked. Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%; it must be confirmed that the substrate temperature is at least +3°C above the dew point to guard against dew formation and condensation.

    Primer Application

    Surfaces to receive FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT UV must have been previously primed with a FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. Care must be taken to ensure the substrate temperature is a minimum of +8°C, and the FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT UV application must be carried out before the open time of the primer expires.

    Mixing

    Before starting mixing, it must be checked that the product temperatures are between +15°C and +30°C. Component A (containing pigment and filler) must be thoroughly mixed with an electric mixer until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains at the bottom or sides of the container. Component B must then be fully added to component A and mixed for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. After mixing is complete, the product must be transferred to another container and mixed for a further 1 minute. Mixing equipment: electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with a suitable epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Excessive mixing must be avoided to prevent air entrainment.

    Coating Application

    FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT UV is poured onto the surface and spread evenly with a notched trowel. When the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spiked roller must be applied to release air. If the spiked roller application is delayed, marks may remain on the surface. If the floor surface is homogeneous and void-free, spiked roller application is not necessary.

    Tool and Equipment Cleaning

    Tools and equipment used after application must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURATHANE® BASECOAT UV has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

The surface moisture content must be a maximum of 4% (should be tested by CM measurement or oven-drying method).

The substrate temperature must be a minimum of +8°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.

The ambient temperature must be between a minimum of +8°C and a maximum of +30°C.

The material temperature must be between a minimum of +15°C and a maximum of +30°C. Ensure that the product temperatures are within this range before starting mixing.

After the application is completed, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, the coating will soften and blister, losing its properties; in this case, the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

There must be no rising moisture according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test). Pay attention to dew formation and condensation. The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.

Important

The concrete surfaces to be coated must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application. A vapour barrier layer must be created for slabs on grade, and the building's roof, walls, doors and windows must be completed.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. If the specified mixing paddle is not used, air will be entrained into the product, causing air bubbles on the coating surface.

Important

After component B has been fully added to component A, the mixture must be mixed for at least 3 minutes, then transferred to another container and mixed for a further 1 minute. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days before application and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather conditions, packaging should be kept at +20°C–+25°C to bring it to application readiness, and the ambient and substrate temperatures should be raised.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the fresh coating.

Important

The product should be stored in its original unopened packaging, in a cool and dry environment, away from direct sunlight, protected from frost, between +8°C and +30°C. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Information

For short-term storage, a maximum of 2 pallets may be stacked on top of each other, and shipment should follow a first-in, first-out system. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated. Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. The product must be stored out of reach of children.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
