Product Description

FOX PURATHANE® SF BASECOAT is a polyurethane-based, two-component, solvent-free, self-levelling, flexible and coloured floor coating specially designed for sports floors. The system is prepared by mixing components A and B in defined ratios and can be applied in sports halls, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, gymnastics and wrestling halls, as well as office and retail store floors. The product has a density of 1.35 gr/cm³, an elongation at break of 53%, and an adhesion strength of 1.7 N/mm², with a consumption of 2.0–2.5 kg/m² at the recommended application thickness of 2 mm.

Usage Areas

  • Sports halls
  • Basketball, volleyball and tennis courts
  • Gymnastics, wrestling and all other indoor sports floors
  • Office and various retail store floors

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

The concrete substrate to be coated must be opened to a porous surface by removing the cement laitance using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding. Weak concrete fragments must be removed, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. FOX SSL® series levelling screed should be used to fill voids and level the surface.

  2. 2

    Checking Surface Conditions

Prior to application, the surface moisture content must be below 4%, rising moisture must be checked using the ASTM polyethylene sheet test, relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%, floor temperature must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C and at least +3°C above the dew point. Concrete surfaces must be at least 3 weeks old, and a vapour barrier layer must be installed in floors laid on ground.

  3. 3

    Material Preparation and Mixing

Ensure that product temperatures are between +10°C and +30°C. Component A (which contains pigment and filler) must be mixed with an electric mixer (300–400 rpm) until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. Component B must then be added entirely to component A and mixed continuously for 3–4 minutes. Avoid over-mixing to prevent air entrainment.

  4. 4

    Application

FOX PURATHANE® SF BASECOAT is poured onto the surface and spread evenly with a notched trowel. Once the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spiked roller must be applied to eliminate air voids. If the spiked roller is applied too late, roller marks may remain on the surface. If the floor surface is homogeneous and void-free, spiked roller application is not required.

  5. 5

    Tool and Equipment Cleaning

After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once FOX PURATHANE® SF BASECOAT has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

Critical

Surface moisture content must be below 4%.

Critical

There must be no rising moisture according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).

Critical

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.

Critical

Beware of dew point and condensation! The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

Critical

Surface temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

Ambient temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

Material temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering may develop; in this case the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out exclusively with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Otherwise, air bubbles may form on the coating.

Important

A vapour barrier layer must be installed in floors laid on ground.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, to improve workability, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.

Important

Shelf life: 6 months from the date of manufacture when stored correctly between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight.

Important

Store in the original unopened packaging in a cool, dry place, protected from frost. For short-term storage, stack no more than 2 pallets high.

Critical

Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; areas must be ventilated.

Critical

Wear protective clothing, gloves, goggles and a mask during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; if contact occurs, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. In case of ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions at +20°C. Consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.

Information

The product contains no volatile organic compounds (VOC-solvent).
