Product Description
FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT EU is an epoxy resin-based, two-component, solvent-free and lightly textured floor coating material. Thanks to its high chemical resistance formulation, it can be used in many different areas such as schools, nurseries, hospitals, laboratories, warehouses, production areas, car parks, shopping centres and similar environments. The product provides a glossy topcoat surface and offers high adhesion strength, abrasion resistance and easy maintenance. With a density of 1.40±0.05 g/cm³, the product must be applied at floor and ambient temperatures between +10°C and +30°C.

Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
Concrete substrates to be coated must be prepared using abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.) to remove the cement laitance and achieve an open-pored surface. Weak concrete particles must be removed from the surface, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. For substrate repairs, filling of voids and levelling of the surface, a mortar obtained by mixing 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer should be used to prepare the floor. The compressive strength of concrete substrates must be at least 25 N/mm², tensile strength at least 1.5 N/mm², moisture content a maximum of 4%, and floor temperature a minimum of +10°C.
- 2
Checking Application Conditions
Surface moisture content must be below 4% (should be tested by CM measurement or oven-drying method). There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test). Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Surface, ambient and material temperature must be within the range of minimum +10°C and maximum +30°C.
- 3
Mixing
Before starting to mix, check that the product temperatures are between +10°C and +30°C. Mix component A thoroughly on its own using an electric mixer and a suitable mixing paddle (300–400 rpm) until a homogeneous colour is achieved and no product remains on the bottom or sides of the container. After adding component B entirely to component A, mix for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment.
- 4
Priming
Surfaces to be coated with FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT EU must have been previously primed with a FOX EPOTHANE® series primer. Floor temperature must be a minimum of +10°C. FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT EU must be applied over the primer within the application window.
- 5
Coating Application
FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT EU is poured onto the surface and applied evenly with a notched trowel. Immediately after the notched trowel application, it is back-rolled with a roller.
- 6
Tool Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent or epoxy thinner. Once FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT EU has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
Application temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.
After the application is completed, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. Contact with water will impair the properties of the coating, and the coating will have to be completely removed and reapplied.
The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Otherwise, condensation will damage the coating.
Concrete substrates must be at least 3 weeks old before application.
Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.
Surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).
Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Otherwise, air will be entrained into the product, causing air bubbles on the coating after application.
Once FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT EU has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, ambient and floor temperatures should be raised; products should be kept at +20°C – +25°C to bring them to a ready-to-use state.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.
The product must be stored in its original unopened packaging, between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.
For short-term storage, pallets may be stacked no more than 3 high; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.
It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; these areas must be ventilated.
Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. In case of ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.
Must be stored out of reach of children. Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. Consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, floor temperature and air humidity. Curing slows at low temperatures and accelerates at high temperatures.
