Product Description

FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT CLEAR is an epoxy resin-based, two-component (A+B), solvent-free, self-levelling, transparent topcoat floor coating material. Thanks to its high chemical and mechanical resistance, it provides long-lasting protection in areas of intensive use. With 100% solid content, it does not shrink after application; it forms a glossy, hygienic and liquid-impermeable surface. Adhesion strength to concrete is ≥1.5 N/mm² and Shore D hardness reaches 85 in 7 days. Applied by roller; a second coat can be applied if desired.

Advantages

  • Has high chemical and mechanical resistance.
  • Easy to maintain and clean.
  • Flowable.
  • Provides hygienic environments.
  • Liquid-impermeable.
  • A glossy topcoat finish is achieved.
  • High adhesion strength.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

The surface to be coated must be clean, dry and free from all foreign matter such as dust and dirt. Surface moisture content must be below 4%; there must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test). Concrete surfaces must be at least 3 weeks old, and a vapour barrier layer must be created for floors laid on ground soil.

  2. 2

    Ensuring Application Conditions

Surface, ambient and material temperatures must be between +10°C and +30°C. Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. The floor temperature must be kept at least +3°C above the dew point. Materials should be brought to the application area 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

  3. 3

    Mixing

After component B has been fully added to component A, the mixture is stirred using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane mixing paddle for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mix is obtained. Excessive mixing should be avoided to minimise air entrainment.

  4. 4

    Application

FOX EPOTHANE® TOPCOAT CLEAR is poured onto the surface, spread with a trowel and then evenly rolled with a roller. A second coat can be applied depending on the desired surface finish. Consumption is approximately 0.25 kg/m² (by roller).

  5. 5

    Tool Cleaning

After application, tools and equipment used should be cleaned with solvents such as FOX CS810 or FOX C380. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

  6. 6

    Curing and Protection

After application, the coating must be protected from water and physical contact for at least 24 hours. Full curing is completed in 7 days at +20°C.

Critical

After application, the coating must be protected from water and physical contact for at least 24 hours. In case of water contact, softening and blistering will occur on the coating; the coating will need to be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Surface temperature, ambient temperature and material temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.

Critical

Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.

Critical

Surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).

Critical

The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Pay attention to dew formation and condensation.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Otherwise, air bubbles will form on the coating.

Important

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, packaging should be kept at +20°C–+25°C to bring the materials to a ready-to-use condition.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.

Important

A vapour barrier layer must be created for floors laid on ground soil.

Important

The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated.

Important

Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. In case of ingestion, consult a doctor immediately.

Important

Must be stored out of reach of children. Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas.

Information

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions at +20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.

Information

The technical values above are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the working time; lower temperatures extend it.
