Product Description
FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS is a two-component, low-viscosity, solvent-free, water-based, breathable, black conductive epoxy primer set. The product is formulated for use as a primer under antistatic coating systems. It is safely applied on industrial floors with increased electrostatic discharge protection requirements, in areas housing sensitive electronic equipment, and in locations with a high risk of explosion. The product is applied in two thin coats by roller, with each coat applied perpendicular to the previous one. Consumption is approximately 0.100 kg/m², and after application, tools and equipment can be cleaned with FOX CS810.
Advantages
- Easy to apply.
- Water-based.
- Low viscosity.
- Anti-static properties.
Usage Areas

- Laboratories
- Aircraft Hangars
- Industrial floors with increased electrostatic discharge protection requirements
- Areas housing sensitive electronic equipment
- Areas with a high risk of explosion
Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The concrete substrate to be coated must be prepared using abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.) to remove the cement laitance and achieve an open-pore surface. Weak concrete particles must be removed from the surface, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be removed with an industrial vacuum. For surface repairs and filling of voids, a mortar prepared by mixing 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER should be used.
- 2
Checking Application Conditions
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Surface, ambient, and material temperatures must be within the range of minimum +10°C and maximum +30°C. The substrate moisture content must be a maximum of 4%, and the substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Caution must be exercised against dew point and condensation.
- 3
Material Preparation and Pre-Conditioning
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions. In cold weather, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C/+25°C to ensure workability. Before mixing, verify that the product temperatures are between +15°C and +25°C.
- 4
Mixing
Component A (FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS) is mixed for 1 minute using a suitable mixer without entraining air. Component B is then poured onto Component A. Mix using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip for 2 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Avoid over-mixing to minimise air entrainment. Pot life at +25°C is approximately 1 hour.
- 5
Application
FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS is applied in two thin coats by roller. Each coat must be applied perpendicular to the previous one. Consumption is approximately 0.100 kg/m². The conductive layer must only be applied after the primer coat has achieved touch-dry status across the entire surface (min. 6 hours at +25°C).
- 6
Tool and Equipment Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment can be cleaned with FOX CS810. Once FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
- 7
Curing and Protection
Full cure at +25°C is 7 days. After the application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. Rain, dust, wind, animals, and insects must be prevented from entering the area while the coating is still fresh.
The temperature of the surface to be applied and the ambient temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this temperature range.
After the application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering of the coating may result; in this case, the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Proceed with the application of the conductive layer only after the primer coat has achieved touch-dry status across the entire surface. Otherwise, there is a risk of wrinkling on the surface or impairment of the conductive properties.
Mixing must be carried out using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with the specified epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip. Otherwise, air will be entrained into the product, causing air bubbles on the coating.
Apply FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS only to primed or levelled concrete and cementitious surfaces.
Do not abrade the primer surface with sand.
The use of FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS in areas with rising moisture or negative-side water ingress does not mean it acts as a moisture barrier. The coating applied over the primer must be a breathable coating.
Concrete surfaces to be coated with epoxy/polyurethane must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application, a vapour barrier layer must be provided for slabs on grade, and the building's roof, walls, doors, and windows must be completed.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Rain, dust, wind, animals, and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.
Relative humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Attention must be paid to dew point and condensation.
The substrate moisture content must be a maximum of 4%, and the substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.
FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER AS freezes at temperatures below 0°C. It must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight.
Opened packaging must be tightly resealed, stored under appropriate conditions, and used within one week.
Approaching storage and application areas with open flames is dangerous; areas must be well ventilated.
Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles, and a mask must be worn during application. In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Store out of reach of children. Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas.
The EU limit value for the VOC content of this product (category IIA/j type wb) is max. 140 g/l (2010). This product contains <140 g/l VOC.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. It should be noted that consumption will increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
