Product Description
FOX ASPARTHANE® TOPCOAT is a polyaspartic-based, two-component, high chemical resistance, fast-curing, low-viscosity, solvent-free, glossy topcoat floor coating. It is designed to be used as the final coat in ASPARTHANE® series flooring systems. Offering 4 times higher chemical and mechanical resistance compared to epoxy, the product can be opened to pedestrian traffic approximately 2 hours after application. Thanks to its aliphatic structure, it has high colour and gloss stability. Its solvent-free formulation produces no VOC emissions in the working environment. With a density of 1.30 gr/cm³, the product can be applied at surface, ambient and material temperatures between +10°C and +25°C. The pot life at +23°C is 25 minutes and it reaches full cure in 7 days. Adhesion strength on concrete surfaces has been tested at >3.85 N/mm² and on steel surfaces at >1.92 N/mm².

Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The concrete substrate to be coated must be prepared using abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.) to remove the cement laitance and achieve an open-pore surface. Weak concrete sections must be removed, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum; voids must be repaired with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer + 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand mortar.
- 2
Checking Application Conditions
Surface moisture content must be below 4% (CM measurement or oven-drying method). There must be no rising moisture according to the ASTM polyethylene sheet test. Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 60%. Surface, ambient and material temperatures must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +25°C. The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.
- 3
Material Preparation and Mixing
Ensure that the temperature of the products is between +10°C and +25°C; bring the materials to the site 1–2 days before application and allow them to acclimatise to ambient conditions. Mix component A thoroughly on its own using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm. Add component B entirely into component A and mix continuously for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Avoid excessive mixing to prevent air entrainment. The product must not be thinned.
- 4
Priming
FOX ASPARTHANE® PRIMER or ASPARTHANE® BASECOAT must be applied to the surfaces prior to the application of FOX ASPARTHANE® TOPCOAT. Primer consumption: 150–250 gr/m². The floor temperature must be a minimum of +8°C.
- 5
Topcoat Application
FOX ASPARTHANE® TOPCOAT is poured onto the surface in equal amounts and at equal intervals, then applied homogeneously using a short-nap roller. Application must be carried out in two coats. Consumption: 150–300 gr/m²/coat.
- 6
Tool and Equipment Cleaning
After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent. Once FOX ASPARTHANE® TOPCOAT has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.
- 7
Curing and Protection
After the coating application is completed, it must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. The time to pedestrian traffic is approximately 2 hours; full cure is achieved in 7 days. Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the area while the coating is still fresh.
The concrete substrate to be coated must be at a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +25°C. Application must not be carried out outside this temperature range.
The floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Condensation and dew formation will impair the properties of the coating.
After the application is completed, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering will occur on the coating; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Mixing time must be at least 3 minutes. An electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip must be used. If the specified mixing tip is not used, air bubbles may form on the coating.
The pot life at +23°C is 25 minutes. At higher temperatures this time is reduced. The prepared mixture must be used within this time.
FOX ASPARTHANE® TOPCOAT must not be thinned. No solvent should be added to the product.
The surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising moisture according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).
Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 60%.
Concrete surfaces to be coated with polyaspartic must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application. A vapour barrier layer must be created for slabs on grade.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, to improve the workability of the products, the packaging should be conditioned at +20°C – +25°C before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.
The product must be stored between +10°C and +25°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.
Must be stored protected from frost. For short-term storage, a maximum of 2 pallets may be stacked on top of each other. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked.
Protective clothing, gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. In case of ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.
It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.
Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.
The product is formulated solvent-free (contains no VOC).
The technical values given in the technical data sheet are valid for +23°C and 50% relative humidity conditions. Higher temperatures shorten the time, lower temperatures extend it.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C. Consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
Chemicals marked (+/-) in the chemical resistance table are conditionally recommended and must be cleaned off within 1 hour; colour change may occur.
