Product Description

FOX ASPARTHANE® THINCOAT CLEAR is a polyaspartic-based, two-component, high chemical resistance, fast-curing, low-viscosity, glossy and transparent floor coating. The product can be opened to pedestrian traffic after approximately 2 hours and reaches full cure in 7 days. With 100% solid content, it has a solvent-free structure. The coating offers 4 times higher chemical and mechanical resistance compared to epoxy and resists a wide range of chemicals. The recommended application thickness is between 0.2 mm and 1 mm. Thanks to its aliphatic structure, it has high colour and gloss stability. It can be applied by self-levelling or roller application methods.

Application Steps

    Surface Preparation

    Concrete surfaces to be coated must be prepared using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding to remove the cement laitance and achieve an open-pored surface. Weak concrete fragments must be removed, small voids and holes must be opened up, and the resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. For void repair and surface levelling, a mortar prepared by mixing 60–70 AFS (0.1–0.3 mm) quartz sand with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER series primer should be used.

    Checking Application Conditions

    Surface moisture content must be below 4% (should be tested by CM measurement or oven-drying method). There must be no rising moisture according to the ASTM polyethylene sheet test. Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 60%. Care must be taken to ensure that the substrate temperature is at least +3°C above the dew point to prevent dew formation and condensation.

    Primer Application

    Prior to applying FOX ASPARTHANE® THINCOAT CLEAR, FOX ASPARTHANE® PRIMER or FOX ASPARTHANE® BASECOAT must be applied to the surface. Ensure that the substrate temperature is a minimum of +10°C. The THINCOAT CLEAR coat must be applied over the primer within the specified application window.

    Mixing

    Check that product temperatures are between +10°C and +25°C. Thoroughly mix component A on its own using an electric mixer. Then add component B entirely into component A and mix continuously for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Use an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip to prevent air entrainment; avoid over-mixing.

    Self-Levelling Application

    The mixture is poured onto the surface and applied evenly with a notched trowel. When the coating reaches the appropriate consistency, a spike roller must be applied to release air. If the spike roller application is delayed, marks may remain on the surface.

    Roller Application

    The mixture is poured onto the surface in equal amounts and at regular intervals and applied homogeneously using a short-nap roller. Application should be carried out in two coats.

  7. 7

    Tool and Equipment Cleaning

    After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical methods.

The surface temperature of the area to be applied must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +25°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.

After the application is completed, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. If water contact occurs, the coating will soften and blister; in this case, the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Pay attention to dew formation and condensation. If condensation forms on the coating, it must be dried with a dry mop. The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing tip. Failure to use the specified mixing tip may result in air bubbles forming on the coating.

Important

Concrete surfaces to be coated with polyaspartic must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application. A vapour barrier layer must be created on slabs laid on ground.

Prior to applying FOX ASPARTHANE® THINCOAT CLEAR, FOX ASPARTHANE® PRIMER or FOX ASPARTHANE® BASECOAT must have been applied to the surface.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather, the ambient and substrate temperature should be increased; products should be kept at +20°C – +25°C to be ready for use.

Important

Prevent rain, dust, wind, animals and insects from coming into contact with the fresh coating.

Important

If the spike roller application is delayed, spike roller marks may remain on the surface.

Information

Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical methods.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flame. Areas must be adequately ventilated.

Critical

Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. In case of ingestion, consult a doctor immediately.

Important

The product must be stored between +10°C and +25°C, away from direct sunlight. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

For short-term storage, a maximum of 2 pallets may be stacked on top of each other; for long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked. A first-in, first-out system must be applied.

Information

Technical values are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity conditions. Higher temperatures shorten the time, lower temperatures extend it.

Important

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 60%.

Important

Must be stored out of reach of children. Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas.
