Product Description

FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU-T is a polyurethane-based, two-component, aliphatic, non-yellowing aggregate binder specially designed for vertical applications, resistant to UV and solar radiation. It is formulated to bond specially selected crushed and tumbled natural-coloured aggregates. Thanks to its aliphatic structure, it maintains colour and appearance stability during long-term outdoor use. It adapts to aggregates of various sizes, enabling a wide range of aesthetic effects. It is used together with EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB-HD primer and must be protected from direct water contact for 24 hours after application.

Advantages

  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
  • Provides an aesthetic appearance to the surface.
  • Long-lasting.
  • UV resistant.
  • Different aggregate sizes can create different visual effects.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

Concrete substrates must be opened to a porous surface by removing the cement laitance using abrasive equipment (shot blasting, milling, diamond grinding, etc.). Weak concrete fragments must be removed, and small voids and holes must be fully opened. The resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. Substrate repairs and filling of voids must be carried out with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar.

  2. 2

    Checking Application Conditions

Surface moisture content must be below 4% (CM measurement or oven-drying method). There must be no rising damp according to ASTM. Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

  3. 3

    Priming

Surfaces to be coated with FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU-T must be primed in advance with EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB-HD primer. Substrate temperature must be a minimum of +8°C. BINDER PU-T application must commence within the overcoating window of the primer.

  4. 4

    Mixing

Ensure that product temperatures are between +10°C and +30°C. Mix component A with a suitable mixer for 1 minute without entraining air. Then pour component B onto component A and mix continuously for 2 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Add the selected aggregates and mix for a further 2–3 minutes. Avoid over-mixing. Mixing equipment: an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle must be used.

  5. 5

    Application

The FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU-T aggregate mixture is poured onto the surface and spread to the desired thickness using a suitable trowel or screed. If a power float is to be used: after the mixture is poured onto the surface, floating with a pan is carried out once the surface has reached a consistency capable of bearing the weight of the helicopter or when the footprint depth is 0.5 cm.

  6. 6

    Tool Cleaning

After application, tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Once the product has cured, it can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

Critical

The concrete substrate must be at least 3 weeks old. Ambient and surface temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Critical

After the application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In case of water contact, softening and blistering will occur on the coating; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Critical

Substrate moisture content must be a maximum of 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test). Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%.

Critical

The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Dew formation and condensation will damage the coating.

Critical

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. If the specified mixing paddle is not used, air bubbles will form on the coating.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions. In cold weather, packaging should be kept at +20°C – +25°C to prepare them for use.

Important

During application, rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the freshly coated area.

Important

The product must be stored between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Critical

Approaching storage and application areas with open flames is dangerous. Areas must be ventilated. Work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application.

Critical

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.

Information

In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, substrate temperature and air humidity. To ensure full curing of the product, ambient and substrate temperature must not fall below the minimum temperature level.
