FOX STONECARPET® BINDER EP is an epoxy-based, two-component, high-strength binder developed for bonding specially selected crushed and tumbled natural-coloured aggregates. Product Description
FOX STONECARPET® BINDER EP is an epoxy-based, two-component, high-strength binder for specially selected crushed and tumbled natural-coloured aggregates. The product is used in interior and exterior applications to give floors an aesthetic and long-lasting appearance. The mixture, prepared by blending components A and B in the specified ratios, can be applied with a trowel or a power float. At +23°C and 50% relative humidity, it has a pot life of 45 minutes, final cure in 3 hours, and full cure in 7 days. Prior to application, the surface must be primed with a suitable EPOTHANE® series primer.

Application Steps

Surface Preparation
Concrete surfaces to be coated must be treated with abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling, or diamond grinding to remove laitance and achieve an open-pore surface. Weak concrete fragments must be removed, small voids and holes must be opened up, and the resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. Surface repair and levelling must be carried out with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar.

Checking Application Conditions
Surface moisture content must be below 4% (tested by CM measurement or oven-drying method); relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Surface, ambient, and material temperatures must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C; floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

Primer Application
Surfaces to be coated must be pre-primed with a suitable EPOTHANE® series primer selected according to the surface condition (e.g. FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER, FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB, FOX PURMAX® PRIMER 1K RAPID, etc.). Care must be taken to ensure the floor temperature is a minimum of +8°C. FOX STONECARPET® BINDER EP must be applied over the primer within the overcoat window.

Mixing
After confirming that product temperatures are between +10°C and +30°C, component A is mixed for 1 minute with a suitable mixer without entraining air. Component B is then poured onto component A and mixed for 2 minutes until a homogeneous blend is obtained. The selected aggregates are added and mixed for a further 2–3 minutes. Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle; over-mixing must be avoided.

Application by Trowel
The FOX STONECARPET® BINDER EP – aggregate mixture is poured onto the surface and spread to the desired thickness using a suitable trowel or screed bar.

Application by Power Float
The FOX STONECARPET® BINDER EP – aggregate mixture is poured onto the surface. To achieve a continuous and even floor, power floating with a pan is carried out once the surface has reached a consistency capable of bearing the weight of the machine, or when the footprint depth is 0.5 cm.

Tool and Equipment Cleaning
Tools and equipment used must be cleaned immediately after application with solvent or polyurethane thinner. Cured FOX STONECARPET® BINDER EP can only be removed from the surface by mechanical means.

Concrete surfaces to be coated must be at least 3 weeks old; ambient and surface temperatures must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.

Surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising moisture according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).

Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Dew formation and condensation must be avoided; the floor temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point.

After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, softening and blistering will occur; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.

Mixing must be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Otherwise, air bubbles will form on the coating.

Products must be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

In cold weather, ambient and floor temperatures should be raised; product packaging should be kept at +20°C – +25°C before use.

Rain, dust, wind, animals, and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.
Important
The product must be stored in its original packaging, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost, between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flames; areas must be ventilated. Protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and a mask must be worn during application. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions at +20°C. Consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.

The above technical values are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the times; lower temperatures extend them.
