Product Description
FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU 1K is a polyurethane-based, single-component, aliphatic binder for specially selected crushed and tumbled natural-coloured aggregates that does not yellow under UV or sunlight exposure. Its solvent-free formulation makes it suitable for safe application in both interior and exterior environments. It is designed for use as a binder in FOX STONECARPET®, FOX PEBBLEDECK and FOX ECODRAIN systems. It is the preferred choice for high-traffic areas such as airports, hospitals, galleries, shopping centres, retail stores and showrooms, and hotels. The coating becomes rain-resistant just 1 hour after application, can be opened to pedestrian traffic within 6 hours, and reaches full cure in 24 hours. It delivers long-lasting coating performance with high flexural (≥6 N/mm²) and compressive (≥15 N/mm²) strength.

Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
The concrete substrates to be coated must be mechanically prepared using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding to remove the cement laitance and create an open-pore surface. Weak concrete sections must be removed; small voids and holes must be fully opened and the resulting dust cleaned with an industrial vacuum. Substrate repairs and void filling must be carried out with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar. The surface must have a compressive strength of at least 25 N/mm², a tensile strength of at least 1.5 N/mm², a moisture content of maximum 4%; the substrate temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and at least +3°C above the dew point.
- 2
Priming
Surfaces to be coated must be primed in advance with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER WB, FOX EPOTHANE PRIMER WB COLORED or FOX EPOTHANE PRIMER HB.
- 3
Mixing
The aggregate and FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU 1K must be mixed using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle for approximately 3–4 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Over-mixing should be avoided to minimise air entrainment.
- 4
Application
The prepared mixture is poured onto the surface and spread to the desired thickness using a suitable trowel or screed. The aggregates must be compacted thoroughly; otherwise the coating will be excessively porous and the surface will feel rough. To allow the trowel to move more easily across the surface, it should be lightly moistened by spraying with FOX C380. Local accumulation of binder must be avoided; any build-up at the bottom and sides of the mixing bucket must be placed into a separate waste container and must not be used in the application.
- 5
Curing and Protection
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 1 hour. Opening to pedestrian traffic is after 6 hours, full cure after 24 hours, and full curing after 7 days.
- 6
Tool and Equipment Cleaning
Tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvents such as FOX CS810 or FOX C380 before the product hardens. Hardened product can only be removed by mechanical means.
The concrete substrate must be at least 3 weeks old; ambient and surface temperature must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.
After application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 1 hour. If water contact occurs, softening and blistering will develop in the coating; the coating must be completely removed and reapplied.
Surface moisture content must be below 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).
The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Dew formation and condensation will damage the coating.
Accumulation of excess binder at a single point may cause white staining on the surface. Material concentrated at the bottom and sides of the mixing bucket must be scraped off into a separate waste container and must not be used in the application.
Mixing must always be carried out with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm using an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. If the specified mixing paddle is not used, air will be entrained into the product, causing air bubbles on the coating surface.
Relative air humidity must not exceed 80%.
Surfaces to be coated with FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU 1K must be primed in advance with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER WB / FOX EPOTHANE PRIMER WB COLORED / FOX EPOTHANE PRIMER HB.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, to improve workability, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C to +25°C before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the building while the coating is still fresh.
Mixtures that have been left for too long or whose consistency has changed must not be used.
The product must be stored in its original unopened packaging in a dry and cool environment (between +5°C and +30°C), protected from sunlight and frost. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture. Opened packaging must be consumed within 1 week.
Pallets must not be stacked on top of each other during storage; shipment must follow a first-in, first-out system.
Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; areas must be ventilated. Protective clothing, gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn during application.
In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Store out of reach of children.
Consumption figures are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of +20°C. Consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather conditions.
