Product Description
FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU 1K TIXO is a single-component, aliphatic polyurethane-based binder developed specifically for specially selected crushed and tumbled natural-coloured aggregates. The product provides long-lasting aesthetic appearance in both interior and exterior applications thanks to its non-yellowing resistance to UV and solar radiation. Its solvent-free formulation offers an environmentally friendly application. Its thixotropic structure allows safe application on vertical surfaces as well. It is used at a ratio of 0.90 kg binder per 15 kg aggregate (applicable for 1–3 mm and 2–4 mm aggregates) and is available in 6 kg tin packaging. Before application to the surface, priming must be carried out either with the product itself or with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB-HD. After application, the coating must be protected from water contact for 24 hours.

Application Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
Concrete substrates to be coated must be opened to a porous surface by removing the cement laitance using abrasive equipment such as shot blasting, milling or diamond grinding. Weak concrete sections and voids must be removed, and the resulting dust must be cleaned with an industrial vacuum. Filling of voids and surface levelling must be carried out with FOX MORTAR FC188 T repair mortar. The substrate must be clean, dry and free of foreign matter (dirt, oil, grease, coatings, surface curing compounds, etc.).
- 2
Checking Application Conditions
Surface moisture content must be below 4% (check by CM measurement or oven-drying method). There must be no rising damp according to the ASTM polyethylene sheet test. Relative air humidity must be a maximum of 80%. Substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. Surface, ambient and material temperatures must be between a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C.
- 3
Priming
Surfaces to be coated must be primed by applying a portion of FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU 1K TIXO (500–600 g/m²) as a primer using a roller, brush or notched trowel, or the surface must be primed with FOX EPOTHANE® PRIMER HB-HD.
- 4
Mixing
The aggregate and FOX STONECARPET® BINDER PU 1K TIXO must be mixed using an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm with an epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle for approximately 3–4 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Excessive mixing must be avoided to minimise air entrainment.
- 5
Application
The prepared mixture is applied to the surface at the desired thickness using a suitable trowel or screed. The aggregates must be well compacted; otherwise the coating will be excessively porous and rough. The trowel should be lightly moistened with FOX C380 to allow easier movement across the surface. Care must be taken to prevent local concentration of the binder; binder accumulating at the bottom and sides of the mixing bucket must be regularly scraped off into a waste container and must not be used in the application.
- 6
Protection and Curing
After the application is complete, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. Allow 24 hours for foot traffic, 2 days for mechanical strength, and 7 days for full cure.
- 7
Tool and Equipment Cleaning
Tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvents such as FOX CS810 or FOX C380 immediately after application. Hardened mixture can only be removed by mechanical means.
Application temperature (surface, ambient and material) must be a minimum of +10°C and a maximum of +30°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.
After completion of the application, the coating must be protected from direct water contact for at least 24 hours. In the event of water contact, the entire coating must be removed and reapplied.
Concrete substrates must be at least 3 weeks old prior to application.
Surface moisture content must be a maximum of 4%. There must be no rising damp according to ASTM (polyethylene sheet test).
The substrate temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point; dew formation and condensation will damage the coating.
Mixing must be carried out exclusively with an electric mixer at 300–400 rpm and a suitable epoxy/polyurethane resin mixing paddle. Otherwise, air bubbles will form on the coating.
Care must be taken to prevent the binder from concentrating locally on the aggregates or the surface; excess accumulation may cause white staining on the surface.
Mixtures that have been left standing for too long or whose consistency has changed must not be used. The working time is 60 minutes.
Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.
In cold weather, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C–+25°C to improve workability before use.
Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from coming into contact with the coating while it is still fresh.
The product must be stored in its original unopened packaging, between +5°C and +30°C, in a dry and cool place, protected from sunlight and frost. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture.
Opened packaging must be resealed and consumed within 1 week. Pallets must not be stacked on top of one another.
Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; areas must be ventilated. In case of skin or eye contact, wash thoroughly with water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Technical property values are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Temperature variations affect curing times.
Consumption values are given for ideal conditions assuming an ambient and surface temperature of 20°C; consumption may increase on uneven surfaces and in cold weather.
