Product Description

FOX CARBOND® PRIMER is an epoxy-based, two-component (A: Epoxy Resin, B: Epoxy Hardener), low-viscosity primer material. It has been specially developed to improve the condition of concrete surfaces and increase adhesion prior to bonding carbon fibre fabric (FOX CARBOND® FIBER) and plates (FOX CARBOND® PLATE) used in structural strengthening systems. It is applied to the surface by roller impregnation in its transparent colour. Full cure is achieved in 7 days at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Compressive strength is >35 N/mm² and adhesion to concrete is >3 N/mm². It is supplied in ready-to-use set packaging.

Key Benefits

  • Thanks to its low viscosity, it deeply impregnates the concrete surface, creating a strong adhesion base.
  • Enables practical roller application, reducing labour and time.
  • Provides structural reliability with high compressive (>35 N/mm²) and flexural (>20 N/mm²) strength.
  • Supports the long-term performance of carbon reinforcement systems with >3 N/mm² adhesion to concrete.
  • Fully compatible with FOX CARBOND® FIBER and FOX CARBOND® PLATE systems, offering an integrated strengthening solution.
  • Ready-to-use set packaging ensures correct proportioning and rapid preparation on site.

Advantages

  • Low viscosity.
  • Easy to apply.
  • High mechanical strength.
  • Provides high adhesion to concrete surfaces.

Application Areas

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

The surface to be treated must be sound, dry, load-bearing, dust-free and clean. All residues that may impair adhesion, such as oil, grease, rust and paraffin, must be thoroughly removed. Surface defects must be repaired with structural repair mortars.

  2. 2

    Mixing

Check that product temperatures are between +5°C and +30°C. First mix Component A (FOX CARBOND® PRIMER) with a suitable mechanical mixer for 1 minute without entraining air. Then pour Component B onto Component A and mix continuously for 2 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Hand mixing must not be used.

  3. 3

    Application

The prepared mixture should be applied to concrete surfaces by roller impregnation. Solvents or other thinners must not be added to the mixture. Only prepare as much material as can be used within the pot life.

  4. 4

    Cleaning of Tools

Tools and equipment used must be cleaned with solvent immediately after application. Once FOX CARBOND® PRIMER has cured, it can only be removed from surfaces by mechanical means.

Critical

FOX CARBOND® PRIMER must not be applied at temperatures below +5°C or above +30°C.

Critical

Before mixing, ensure that the product temperatures are between +5°C and +30°C.

Critical

FOX CARBOND® PRIMER is supplied in ready-to-use sets. Solvents or other thinners must not be added to the mixture during application.

Critical

Mixing must always be carried out using suitable mechanical mixers. Hand mixing must not be used.

Important

Only prepare as much material as can be used within the pot life.

Important

Materials to be used should be brought to the application site 1–2 days in advance and allowed to acclimatise to ambient conditions.

Important

In cold weather applications, the ambient and substrate temperature should be raised; to improve workability, packaging should be conditioned at +20°C/+25°C before use.

Important

Rain, dust, wind, animals and insects must be prevented from entering the area while the coating is still fresh.

Information

In resin-based systems, pot life and curing times are affected by ambient temperature, substrate temperature and air humidity. Curing slows at lower temperatures.

Important

FOX CARBOND® structural strengthening systems must be applied by specialist applicators.

Important

Opened packaging must be resealed and consumed within 1 week.

Critical

Open flames near storage and application areas are dangerous; these areas must be well ventilated.

Critical

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations. Contact with skin and eyes must be avoided; in case of contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.
