Product Description

FOX UGC SA45 is a high-performance, alkali-free, non-caustic and non-toxic powder set accelerator for use in dry-mix shotcrete. It is a powder admixture whose dosage can be adjusted depending on the desired setting and hardening time. Under normal conditions it is used at 4–8% of the binder weight. The minimum cement content in mixes containing FOX UGC SA45 must be 350 kg/m³. It is compatible with all cement types and can also be used together with mineral additions such as microsilica, fly ash and slag.

Advantages

  • Shortens the initial and final setting times of concrete compared to plain concrete.
  • Enables single-layer application of 10–15 cm thickness above shoulder height.
  • Provides rapid progress.
  • Delivers high early strength development.
  • Causes minimum reduction in final strengths.
  • Offers improved durability compared to conventional set accelerators.
  • Provides improved working conditions.
  • Results in lower salt content in wastewater.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

The surface to be treated must be clean and free of loose particles; it should preferably be in a wet condition.

  2. 2

    Cement Selection

The use of fresh cement only is recommended; the freshness of the cement directly affects the setting time. As FOX UGC SA45 is sensitive to cement type, the setting time may be slow with some cements; in such cases the water content of the mix can be reduced.

  3. 3

    Preliminary Test

It is strongly recommended to carry out preliminary tests with the cement to be used in the project regarding setting time and 24-hour strength development. Expected results: Initial set 2 min / Final set 6–8 min / After 24 hours 18–20 MPa (Suitable); Initial set 5 min / Final set 8–12 min / After 24 hours 12–15 MPa (Acceptable); ≥10 min / ≥15 min / <10 MPa (Not recommended).

  4. 4

    Mixing and Dosage

FOX UGC SA45 is used at 4–8% of the binder weight under normal conditions. The minimum cement content in mixes must be 350 kg/m³. Under normal conditions the set accelerator is added to the mix before use. Overdosing (>10%) may lead to a reduction in final strengths.

  5. 5

    Application

FOX UGC SA45 is not recommended for use when the ambient temperature is below +15°C. It can be used with all cement types, with mineral additions such as microsilica, fly ash and slag, with air-entraining admixtures to improve freeze-thaw resistance, and with synthetic and steel fibres to combat plastic shrinkage cracking.

Critical

Not recommended for use when the ambient temperature is below +15°C.

Critical

Overdosing (>10%) may result in a reduction in final strengths.

Important

It is strongly recommended to carry out preliminary tests with the cement to be used in the project regarding setting time and 24-hour strength development.

Important

FOX UGC SA45 is sensitive to cement type. Setting time may be slow with some cements; this sensitivity can be compensated by reducing the water content in the mix.

Important

The surface must be clean and free of loose particles, preferably wet. The use of fresh cement only is recommended.

Important

Store between +5°C and +30°C, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry environment, protected from frost. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Important

For short-term storage, stack no more than 3 pallets high and dispatch on a first-in, first-out basis. For long-term storage, pallets must not be stacked on top of one another.

Critical

Approaching storage and application areas with open flame is dangerous. Storage and application areas must be ventilated.

Critical

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Store out of reach of children.

Important

Frozen product must be thawed at room temperature without the use of direct heat and mixed mechanically until homogeneous. Compressed air must not be used during mixing.

Information

The technical values above are given at +23°C and 50% relative humidity. Higher temperatures shorten the setting time; lower temperatures extend it.
