Product Description

FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 is an adhesion-enhancing, bonding and flexibility-imparting auxiliary additive for cement-based mortars such as ceramic tile adhesives, renders, screeds and repair mortars. With its modified polymer dispersion structure, when mixed with cement it provides waterproofing and moisture insulation on walls. The product is used in repair mortars, screed and render applications, waterproofing mortars, and for making ceramic tile adhesives more flexible.

Advantages

  • Forms a strong and durable bond.
  • Imparts elasticity.
  • Increases the adhesion properties of cement-based mortars.
  • Provides excellent adhesion.
  • High resistance to chemical and mechanical attack is achieved.
  • Increases the shrinkage resistance of renders and screeds, minimising cracking.
  • Contains no additives that cause corrosion.
  • Increases resistance to freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Improves workability.
  • Protects concrete and mortar against external influences.

Usage Areas

  • As an additive in repair mortars
  • As an adhesion additive in mortars prepared for the repair of screeds and renders
  • As an additive to impart flexibility to single-component waterproofing materials
  • As an additive to make ceramic tile adhesives more flexible
  • As a surface primer before render and ceramic tile application; as an additive in mortars prepared for laying natural stone, brick and floor tiles
  • As moisture insulation when mixed with cement on reinforced concrete shear walls and outdoor brick walls exposed to rain

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Preparation of Ceramic Tile Adhesive

A liquid mixture prepared by adding 1 part FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 and 1 part water is added to 1 kg of powdered ceramic tile adhesive mix and blended to obtain a trowel-consistency mortar. Example: for 25 kg FOX CERA FX110 Grey, mix with 4.00 L FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 and 4.00 L water. The relevant mixing ratios must be observed for other products.

  2. 2

    Preparation of Repair Mortar

    For 20 kg FOX SILK MORTAR FC125, mix with 4.00 L (4 parts) FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 and 2.50 L (2.5 parts) water. For 25 kg FOX MORTAR FC188 T, mix with 2.50 L (1 part) FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 and 2.50 L (1 part) water. For 25 kg FOX BASEMOR FC205, mix with 4.50 L (1 part) FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 and 4.50 L (1 part) water.

  3. 3

    Preparation for Render Mortars

1 m³ of washed river sand of appropriate granulation is mixed with 350 kg of cement. A mixture prepared by adding 120 litres of water to 5 kg of FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 is added to the pre-prepared dry mix to obtain a trowel-consistency mortar. Surfaces must be wetted 12 hours before application; the FM126-modified mortar must be applied to a wet/dry surface.

  4. 4

    Primer (PCC) Application for Screeds

1 part cement is mixed with 3 parts river sand. A liquid mixture prepared by adding 2 parts water to 1 part FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 is added to the dry mix. The mixture, brought to a slurry consistency, is spread over the substrate with a brush to a thickness of 2 mm.

  5. 5

    Screed Preparation

A minimum of 350 kg of cement is mixed with 1 m³ of washed river sand of appropriate granulation. A liquid mixture prepared by adding 110 litres of water to 4 kg of FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 is added to the pre-prepared dry mix and brought to the appropriate consistency for screeding.

  6. 6

    Primer Application for Waterproofing Mortars

1.00 L (1 part) FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 is mixed with 2.00 L (2 parts) water and 4 kg (4 parts) cement and applied by brush to a pre-dampened surface that has been cleaned of dirt, oil, grease and foreign matter. The surface is left to dry.

  7. 7

    Waterproofing Layer Application

1.00 L (1 part) FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 and 2 kg (2 parts) cement are mixed for a maximum of 2 minutes and applied to the surface by brush at a thickness of 1–2 mm. After application, the surface must be protected from contact with water for 5–6 hours.

Critical

Application temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C. Application must not be carried out outside this range.

Critical

After application of the waterproofing layer, the surface must be protected from contact with water for 5–6 hours.

Important

For render mortars, surfaces must be wetted 12 hours before application; the mortar containing FOX BINDER FLEX FM126 must be applied to a wet/dry surface.

Important

For waterproofing mortars, the surface must be pre-dampened for primer application and must be free of all foreign matter such as dirt, oil, grease, coatings and surface curing compounds.

Important

The product must be stored in its original unopened packaging, in a cool and dry environment, away from direct sunlight and protected from frost, at between +5°C and +30°C.

Important

Pallets must not be stacked on top of one another during long-term storage.

Critical

It is dangerous to approach storage and application areas with open flame; these areas must be ventilated.

Important

During application, appropriate work clothing, protective gloves, goggles and a mask must be worn in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations.

Critical

Must not be allowed to contact skin or eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Important

Food and beverages must not be brought into application areas. Must be stored out of reach of children.

Information

The above technical values are given for +23°C and 50% relative humidity conditions. Higher temperatures shorten the time; lower temperatures extend it.

Information

Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture under correct storage conditions at room temperature.
